The science bit:
These products are the latest bio- stimulants formulated with the most up to date knowledge and technology. They have the benefits of the immediate hydrating effect of HA (hyaluronic acid) and long-term stimulation of collagen production of collagen production by PDLLA (Poly-D-L-Lactic acid), which is a body compatible polymer from the alpha- hydroxy acid family (fruit acids). PLLA has been used medically for many years in dissolvable stitches, does not require pre-treatment skin testing for allergies and is approved by the FDA. Their effectiveness and safety are confirmed by clinical trials. These PDLLA particles naturally degrade into carbon dioxide and water often within 6 months, however their effects can last up to 2 years.
Juvelook has 42.5 mg of PDLLA (particle size 10-40 µm) and 7.5 mg of non-cross-linked HA.
Lenisna has 170mg of PDLLA (particle size 50-60 µm) and 30 mg of non-cross-linked HA.
What does Juvelook and Lenisna treat?
They are both designed to help you regenerate some of the collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that your body has depleted with ageing.
Juvelook is particularly of use in the tear trough, in the crow’s feet and decollété.
Lenisna is a robust regenerator of skin folds, wrinkles and lax skin of the face. It also rejuvenates the neck, backs of the hands and deep acne scars.
Benefits:
• The effect of your treatment is visible immediately after injection thanks to the hydrating effects of the hyaluronic acid. Then the skin rejuvenation through collagen production starts from week 2 and continues for 6 months.
• Brighter skin and pores reduced. There is a visible improvement scars, wrinkles, texture and stetch marks.
• It "revs up" collagen production adding elasticity and bounce to the skin whilst improving the facial contours of the face.
• It is usual to only need 2-3 sessions, spaced around 8-12 weeks apart to get a noticeable and lasting result.
• This is a safe and biocompatible material used to restore youthful appearance in a gradual and natural manner. No allergy pretesting is necessary.
• This skin rejuvenation effect can last up to two years in the majority of patients. Most patients like to have a top up every 12-18 months to maintain their look.
• Skin rejuvenation of the eyes, crow’s feet, tear trough, forehead and neck is achieved with Juvelook.
• Skin rejuvenation of those over 40 that need an increase in volume of sunken areas of the face and / or an improvement of generalised facial skin laxity Lenisna works very well.
When will you see results:
Immediately but the treatment area will improve again from week 2 right up to 6 months. However, most of your natural rejuvenation and skin elasticity results are seen by week 12.
Most people require 2-3 treatments before results are seen.
People in their 30s may, on average, require 1 or 2 treatments spaced 2-3 months apart to notice an improvement. In contrast skinny smokers in their 50s who have had a lot of sun damage, may require 3-4 treatments. It usually takes decades to lose skin collagen so it may take 12 months or more to replete this loss.
Is it painful to have injections of Juvelook or Lenisna?
Here at Dr K’s Clinic, we take your comfort very seriously. Dr Maeve injects separate local anaesthetic, uses topical anaesthetic (numbing cream), facial vibration devices and soothing music to make you as comfortable as possible. Often procedures are performed with a cannula. This is a blunt needle that enters the skin through a needle hole and then guided under the surface of the skin depositing filler along the way. These are more comfortable than having repeated needle injections and are generally safer than needles, as they glide around vessels in the face. Most patients rate the process of product injection into the face as a 3-4 out of 10.
What should I expect whilst having injections of Juvelook or Lenisna treatment at Dr K’s Clinic?
This is a quick and minimally invasive outpatient procedure.
Here is an outline of how the whole process goes from when you book your first appointment:
• At the initial consultation, you will be asked about your medical history and your aesthetic aspirations and goals. You will be examined and have clinical photographs taken to analyse your face in detail. The most suitable procedures will be discussed and other patient’s before and afters are shown (with expressed consent) to show the “subtle to the wow” results achieved in the non-surgical arena.
• Your treatment plan and costs will be discussed and later emailed to you. You can then return at a later date to begin your treatment.
• When you return for your treatment, you will have been emailed the consent and an aftercare form with an emergency phone number attached. The proposed treatment and what to expect during and after is discussed.
• A facial ultrasound scan will be performed, if clinically necessary. Not all treatments require an ultrasound beforehand.
• Anaesthetic injections, numbing creams, facial vibration devices and soothing music will be used to maximise comfort. Your face with be scrupulously cleaned and a sterile surgical pack is used to place the products on.
• Then the injections begin with fine needles or cannulas. This can take anything from 20-60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the treatment.
• You will be asked intermittently during your procedure to check your progress with a hand-held mirror. This is to make sure you are happy with your emerging results.
• A final clean of the face and an after photo taken as your results will be immediately visible.
• You may be given some colour matched camouflage cream to take home and apply (no sooner than 24 hours later to reduce infection risk), if bruising appears.
• You will be given a complimentary appointment for a check-up 2- 3 weeks later. You will be invited to call or text reception and/ or the emergency phone if you have any concerns. Emergency aftercare is very accessible to keep you safe.
Who is not suitable for treatment:
• Please inform the Dr if you have had any antibiotics or dental work in the last two weeks as this may cause problems if you have a treatment.
• The manufacturers are not sure whether this product is safe in pregnancy and breast feeding so it is best avoided.
• You must inform your doctor if you have had permanent or semipermanent fillers or implants in the past as this may have safety implications for new filler injections.
• You should not have this treatment if you are under 18 years of age unless your specific age has been discussed with your doctor and the benefits outweigh the risks.
How much does a treatment of Lenisna or Juvelook cost?
This treatment gives you such good “bang for buck”. An eye treatment with Juvelook starts at £350 whereas a facial treatment with Lenisna starts at £450. Courses of 2 or 3 are recommended for the best results
Risks:
Common side effects:
• Redness, swelling, oedema, bruising, bleeding, pain and/or odd sensation. These should be expected after any treatment that involves injecting a product into the face. They are often short-lived and resolve within a few days. Bruising around the eyes can last for 14 days. Your injector isn’t at fault, it is because your ageing blood vessels are prone to leaking in the presence of a needle or cannula.
Like all products that are injected into the skin there are unusual medical risks including infection, blockage of an artery, nodules, unsatisfactory results. Ultrasound, the use of cannulas and avoidance of certain high-risk areas will be used to reduce these risks.
All clinical precautions are taken to minimise these complications and if they do occur can be managed with medical intervention from this clinic.
Aftercare:
• You will be given an emergency out of hours telephone number to ring or text if you have any concerns
• This medical intervention will be injected until aseptic conditions to minimise infection. Please do not touch the treatment area or apply makeup for at least 24 hours.
• Please avoid extreme sun exposure, UV light, temperatures below 0°C, saunas and steam rooms for 2 weeks after treatment as it will reduce longevity of your result.
• Avoid strenuous activity or exercise for 3-7 days following treatment.
• Although this is not a universal precaution, there have been rare instances of problems arising if infections, dental work, tattoos, vaccines are experienced in the two weeks before or after an implanted injectable procedure (such as this). If possible, please defer routine interventions such as dental work/ tattoos/ vaccines.
• All patients after interventions like this will be given a complimentary 2 week and 3 month follow up to ensure patient satisfaction.
